The Beginning of Auschwitz:
Auschwitz was a concentration camp that started in the spring of 1940. The concentration camp was located in southern Poland which was considered the largest of the Nazi concentration camps and death camps. It initially served as a detention center for Jewish prisoners, but it served as a camp where Jewish and other perceived enemies of the Nazi state were exterminated. These people of Germany were exterminated by gas chambers, slave labor, random torture, and medical experiments led by Josef Mengela (1911-79). Detainees considered unfit for work including young children, elderly, and pregnant women to take showers which were really gas chambers which was torture for the Jews to be killed. These victims were exposed to Zyklon-B poison gas which was a horrible feeling for many of the Jews leading to them not having enough oxygen.
Some of the Jews escaped the gas chamber, but it was uncommon for many to survive. If they did survive they would eventually die of starvation, disease, and overwork.
The first commandment was Rudolf Hoss (1900-47). Auschwitz was located on a military base outside a town in southern Poland near Krakow.
In the mid-1942's majority of people being sent to Auschwitz were Jews.
